OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN STRENGTH TRAINING

ABOUT US

  • Strong Gurls Club was founded by JDI Barbell Co-Owner and Personal Trainer Priscilla Del Moral. After noticing a gap in the fitness industry, where women felt discouraged from entering the weight room. Conversations about their experiences often reveal a negative narrative, stemming from concerns about getting too bulky, doubting their ability to perform certain exercises, encountering inappropriate behaviors such as catcalling or harassment or thinking strength training simply wasn’t for them. Through conversations I realized a lot of women didn’t recognize that strength training offers far more than just physical gains in muscle size and lifting capacity. It fosters mental resilience, confidence, and a connection between the body and mind. The Strong Gurls Club was created because I wanted to see a space in the gym where women could feel encouraged, supported and educated on how important strength training is for our physical health, at all stages of life but also our mental health

  • The Strong Girls Club, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Manhattan, NYC, was formed in 2023 to empower women and gurls* by fostering confidence and addressing mental health through strength training. We educate gurls on proper weightlifting techniques, highlighting how strength training can enhance mental health, build self-confidence, and create supportive environments for success.

*(We welcome all individuals who identify as a gurl, including non-binary people, trans women, and those exploring their gender)

  • Our vision is to normalize strength training for gurls, creating spaces where women feel comfortable, confident, and empowered in gyms and training facilities. Our long-term goal is to integrate our philosophy into existing training spaces across New York rather than establishing a singular facility. The Strong Gurls Club envisions a world where every woman and individual who identifies as a gurl—regardless of age or gender identity—embraces strength with confidence. We see strength training as a vital tool for resilience, healing, and self-empowerment. Our vision encompasses a society in which women feel supported, safe, and educated in strength training environments, breaking free from outdated stereotypes and recognizing the transformative benefits of strength training as essential to overall well-being
